    Overall Purpose of the Job

    The Clinical and Site Lead Nurse plays a crucial role in maintaining the physical health of those they care for. As part of a team of healthcare professionals, they are responsible for providing holistic, person-centred care to the highest standard. Key tasks are aimed at providing comprehensive care and enhancing the well-being of the individual patients.

     

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    • Providing safe, comprehensive, person-centred nursing care within the Scope of Practise as issued by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). 
    • Collaborating with physicians, therapists, Director of Nursing (DON), and other healthcare professionals to develop and modify patient care plans.
    • Meeting the holistic needs of patients in alignment with Positive Health principles, emphasising empathy, respect, confidentiality, and dignity in patient care.
    • Involving patients in decision-making and care processes, acting as their advocate when needed.
    • Ensuring the Care Team are providing an excellent quality service within current legislative and policy guidelines. Delegating to and supervising the work of other grades of staff within the remit of their role, as appropriate.
    • Responding effectively to medical emergencies, including assessing the situation, providing immediate care, and notifying appropriate medical personnel.
    • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, including maintaining licensure and participating in continuing education.
    • Demonstrating flexibility by rotating shifts as required to meet nursing resource needs.
    • Adhering to infection control and safety protocols. 
    • Contributing to nursing quality assurance by helping to identify recurring nursing problems, co-operating in data collection, and assisting in maintaining accreditation standards.
    • Assessing patients’ health conditions and developing and implementing nursing care plans.
    • Conducting diagnostic tests and interpreting results to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
    • Monitoring vital signs and providing general nursing care. Performing various clinical procedures,  including IV administration, wound care, and catheterisation.
    • Report and consult with senior nursing management on clinical issues as appropriate.
    • Storing, administering, and recording individual medication in line with internal policy and nursing guidelines.
    • Maintaining accurate and detailed patient records of nursing assessments and interventions, including medical histories, symptoms, and treatments, in accordance with local/national/professional guidelines.
    • Educating patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care.
    • Dealing with complaints, ward incidents and accidents in accordance with internal policy. Accurately record and report details to DON and Site Manager.
    • Participating in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient progress and coordinate care.
